Spotlights of the Suburbs

Parks & Recreation

Suburban Philadelphia is a picturesque place, full of parks and preserved spaces. In Exton, you can get lost in the 727-acre Exton Park. The paved 15-mile Chester Valley Trail is ideal for cyclists and is ADA accessible. It doesn’t get much better than the Schuylkill River Trail in Conshohocken, voted one of the best riverwalks in the nation. Venture further out to Marsh Creek State Park in Downingtown, home to Marsh Creek Lake, a popular place for sailboaters.

Shopping

For shopping, it’s difficult to beat the King of Prussia. The main shopping mall is the third-largest in the US, with more than 450 upscale retailers. Just west is the King of Prussia Town Center, mixing outdoor retail, dining, and entertainment that anchors the expansive commercial development. If you’d prefer a more small-town feel with one-of-a-kind shops, don’t miss historic Fayette Street in Conshohocken, a neat row of boutiques winding along the Schuylkill River.

Jobs & Schools

While the area surrounding Philadelphia is rich with healthcare and education job opportunities, high-tech is making inroads, too. Notable suburban employers include SAP, Comast, IBM, and Lockheed Martin. Swarthmore is a suburb offering exceptional education, from Blue Ribbon elementary school Swarthmore-Rutledge School to the renowned liberal arts college Swarthmore College. Ambler is home to Blue Ribbon Wissahickon High School.
